Christmas Tree Lighting Event
Betty McMillen

The Christmas Tree Lighting event sponsored by the Lakeside Chamber of Commerce on December 2 was a great success. The Chamber had set up their beautifully decorated tree in our courtyard.
Over 150 people kicked off the holiday season by joining in the fun and watching the Lakeside Fire Fighters flip the switch to turn on the hundreds of lights on the tree. There were a lot of oooooh's and ahhhhhhh's.  Afterwards they strolled up and down Maine Avenue looking at the holiday decorations that businesses had installed. Now they can vote for their favorite in the East County Gazette newspaper.
As a fundraiser the Historical Society had a food booth set up in the courtyard and we served hot dogs and home made chili. Our Lakeside Museum was open too and over 100 people took a step back in time when they entered the door, it was decorated for an old fashion Christmas.
Many families came into the Olde Community Church to see it for the first time. It looked really beautiful decorated in the Victorian style with gold, silver and burgundy.
Following the event our workers got busy and rearranged the tables to get ready for the Holiday Home tour the following day. Thanks to all our dedicated volunteers for making these two events successful.
